WYPTA Policy

Starting Out

We aim to make sure that you have the information you need to catch your bus or train. This is essential so that you know what is happening and can choose how to travel.

WYPTA Policy

  • To ensure that anybody wishing to travel in West Yorkshire is easily able to obtain reliable information on all public transport services in the county
  • To encourage the use of public transport by promoting its use in partnership with others, particularly emphasising its role as an environmentally friendly alternative to the car

Waiting To Go

Metro knows that where you wait affects the way you feel about public transport. We therefore work closely with bus and train operators, local authorities and private companies to improve facilities at both the beginning and end of public transport trips.

WYPTA Policy

  • To continue to improve facilities for passengers by adopting high standards of design and amenity in bus and railway stations and improving the quality of the waiting environment at roadside shelters and stops
  • To co-ordinate the development of a public transport system that provides as closely as possible ‘seamless journeys’ for passengers by facilitating interchange between modes and services
  • To continue to improve personal safety and security for users of public transport

Getting Aboard

We aim to make travel easy and affordable for all by providing a range of concessions for travellers. Paying for your ticket each trip can take time and be difficult without the right change so we offer a range of prepaid tickets which speed up boarding, save you money and make paying much easier.

WYPTA Policy

  • To maintain the concessionary travel scheme to assist those with limited financial resources because of age or disability to meet their personal travel needs
  • To promote and develop a comprehensive prepaid ticket system with operators, through joint investment, which facilitates an integrated approach to public transport use

Getting Mobile: Buses

Buses are the main public transport service you use to travel round West Yorkshire.

WYPTA Policy

  • To ensure, in partnership with operators, highway authorities and others that bus services are as effective as possible in meeting the travel needs of the people of West Yorkshire, serving both existing passengers and attracting additional patronage, including mode switch from the car.

Getting Mobile: Rail

MetroTrain provides a network of local services within the county and regular checks are made on facilities at stations and on trains. Metro also checks that the agreed types of trains are being provided and if improvements are necessary takes action with the Strategic Rail Authority.

WYPTA Policy

  • To ensure, in partnership with operators, Network Rail and others, that rail services are as effective as possible in meeting the travel needs of the people of West Yorkshire, serving both existing passengers and attracting additional patronage, including mode switch from the car.

Access For All

We aim to provide equal access to transport for everyone.

WYPTA Policy

  • To co-ordinate the development of an accessible and affordable public transport system which caters for the needs of people with limited alternative means of travel, in particular disabled people, elderly people, people on low incomes, school children and those living in rural areas

Developing New Schemes

New proposals are very important if we are to improve the quality of public transport. WYPTA and Metro work in partnership to develop and introduce strategies to improve different areas of the network.

WYPTA Policy

  • To continue the development of an integrated Public Transport System for the people of West Yorkshire, taking account of social, techno- logical, environmental and legislative changes and requirements
